Memorial Day is a day of remembrance in which we honor, support, and remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. In honor of all of those military members that have given their lives for this country, First Care is giving back by donating to Active Heroes in Kentucky and Indiana Veterans Relief Fund. If you’re feeling the urge to do more or give back this Memorial Day, here’s some good news: there’s plenty of ways to get involved!
Volunteering is a great option for giving back this Memorial Day! Organizations such as Veterans of Foreign Wars and Memorial Day Flowers allow volunteers the opportunity to place flowers, flags, or wreaths on soldier’s graves in remembrance. Check out a charity in your community to see how you can get involved!
In honor of our fallen heroes, you can also support our active-duty military. Sending hand-written letters or putting together care packages for those currently stationed is a great way to give back this Memorial Day! Troops would love receiving items that will help them day to day, such as trail mix, candy, pain relievers, toothpaste, mouth wash, cough drops, pen and paper, books, etc.
You can also donate to charities such as Homes for our Troops, Wounded Warrior Project, and Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation. The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) is a support system for families who have lost a relative that was a fallen hero. You can donate to support the TAPS mission or volunteer to care and be there for those who have lost their loved ones.
While Memorial Day weekend is usually full of grilling out and being on the lake, it is also a much more meaningful day where we have a chance to honor our troops. Remember the importance of this day by giving back to those who fought for our freedom.
