When you’re feeling under the weather, struggling to schedule a doctor’s appointment is the last thing you need. At First Care Clinics, we offer more services than just school physicals. Our staff of clinicians helps care for numerous ailments every day. Here is a complete list of common illnesses treated by our medical staff.
Allergies and minor allergic reactions
Patients suffer from allergies year-round and, of course, can experience allergic reactions at inopportune times. Whether you’re looking for preventative medication or life-saving treatment from reactions, we can help.
Cold and flu
Both prevalent viral infections, cold and flu seasons flare up without notice and spread very quickly. Our staff effectively treats patients with cold and flu symptoms so we can aid as many people as possible.
Cough and bronchitis
While a cough may be a side effect of many illnesses, it is a vital part of diagnosing bronchitis, in which the presence of a mucal substance called phlegm is coughed up. When not treated, these can form from upper respiratory infections or colds, so let our team evaluate the severity.
Dehydration and heat exhaustion
Dehydration and heat exhaustion results from extensive exposure to direct sunlight and extremely high temperatures, often without hydrating. Both can lead to heat stroke, which is a life-threatening condition. We can provide rehydrating and IV services as treatment.
Ear infections and ear wax removal
When left untreated, excess ear wax can cause hearing loss, irritation, and additional problems. In addition, ear infections occur in the presence of viruses or bacteria and can cause fevers and ear pain. Our staff treats many cases of ear infections, most commonly in young children.
Eye infections, pink eye, and styes
All three infections are caused by bacteria or viruses and are highly contagious. Therefore, we recommend receiving medical attention for eye infections, pink eye, and styes immediately to avoid long-term damage to the eye.
Migraines and headaches
While migraines aren’t entirely understood, both a patient’s environment and genetics can affect their causation. These severe headaches can be triggered by numerous things our staff can help determine and treat.
Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
Caused primarily by viruses, bacteria, parasites, and certain foods, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea can cause dehydration, leading to more severe illnesses. It is best to seek medical attention if these symptoms last longer than 48 hours.
Rashes and poison ivy
Rashes are described as irritated and swollen skin, most commonly caused by poison ivy, as seen by our doctors. However, this very treatable condition may also be a sign of additional medical problems, which is why seeking medical help for treating rashes is best.
Sexually transmitted diseases
STDs or STIs are infections spread during all types of sexual contact and are extremely common. Without medication, these infections can lead to serious health problems; however, they are easy to treat in most cases.
Also called sinusitis, sinus infections occur when fluid blocks the sinuses and causes bacteria and viruses to develop. Seasonal allergies, colds, smoking, and weak immune systems often are at the root of all cases and can be treated with or without antibiotics.
There are many skin conditions however First Care Clinics treats a majority of common ones, such as alopecia areata, psoriasis, rosacea, and acne. If you’re concerned about specific moles or freckles, we can also perform a skin check for skin cancer prevention.
Sore throat and strep throat
While they can start mild, sore throats (caused by a virus) and strep throat (caused by bacteria streptococcus) can quickly become intensely painful. However, serious complications are rare, and antibiotic medications are primarily used as treatment.
Upset stomachs are a common illness that can be caused by countless things, from eating too much or too fast, stress, certain medications, and more. For persistent or severe stomach aches, medical attention is recommended.
Urinary tract and bladder infections
A widespread infection is caused by bacteria from the skin entering the urethra. This occurs from sexual activity, previous UTIs, changes in internal bacteria, pregnancy, age, and poor hygiene. Staying hydrated and practicing good hygiene are great for prevention, but antibiotics are the most effective treatment.
