How to Deal with Mosquitos

Summer is full of pool days, popsicles, and sandy feet. Unfortunately, summer is also full of mosquitos. Summer is the peak mosquito season. They prefer a warm climate which is why they are most common during the summer. Although bug bites can be hard to avoid, there are some remedies you can try to prevent these annoying bugs from bothering you. Keep reading below to learn how to keep mosquitos away!

Avoid Scented Products

Certain fragrances attract mosquitos. These fragrances can be found in your perfume, deodorant, lotion, or on your clothes. Floral scents in particular entice mosquitos because they feed on the nectar of flowers. Lactic acid and alpha hydroxy acid are two common ingredients found in lotions. These ingredients also attract mosquitos. When going outside, try to avoid wearing strongly scented products.

Use Plug-In Fans

Did you know mosquitos are terrible fliers? Even the slightest breeze from an electric fan can deter mosquitos. A fan will also disperse the scent of carbon dioxide and other chemicals that attract these bugs.

Avoid Peak Mosquito Hours

Mosquitos tend to be more prevalent during dawn and dusk. Try to stay indoors during these times. They avoid daylight so they do not overheat from dehydration. Direct sunlight kills mosquitos.

Mosquito Repellant Sprays

There are many bug sprays and repellants out there. When trying to choose the best spray, make sure to look for the active ingredient DEET (N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide). This ingredient is proven to repel insects by masking the scent we put off.
