New Year’s resolutions often surround health and fitness goals for the new year. One easy way to be healthier in 2019 is starting each day with a healthy breakfast that will give you the energy and brain power you need, to conquer the day. Here are 4 healthy breakfast tips:

  1. Protein

Protein is a crucial aspect of your healthy breakfast. It will give you the energy you need to kickstart your day. Some great breakfast protein options include Greek yogurt and eggs and other proteins that include healthy fats like nuts and salmon. Protein is also the single most important nutrient for weight loss. This is because the body uses more calories to metabolize protein, compared to fats or carbohydrates.

  1. Whole grains

Whole grain breads and cereals are high in fiber and can help you maintain a healthy blood sugar level and avoid energy crashes throughout the day. When looking at cereals at the grocery store, look for ones with whole grain listed as the first ingredient and at least 5 grams of fiber per serving. Bran cereals and bran flakes are usually your healthiest options!

  1. Breakfast smoothies

Smoothies can be tricky because you can definitely make an unhealthy breakfast smoothie. If fruit is your only ingredient, you are basically starting your day with a big glass of sugar. However, if you use some fruit mixed with greek yogurt, protein powder, peanut butter, flax seeds, or other healthy ingredients, breakfast smoothies become a great healthy option.

  1. Choose healthy options at restaurants

One of the easiest ways to break health goals is when dining out with friends or co-workers. It’s hard to know how restaurants prepare the food when it comes to how much butter, sugar, oil, etc. is used. However, never be afraid to ask! You can enjoy eating out while staying healthy by sticking to vegetable omelets and oatmeal. Avoid breakfast from fast food chains if possible.

We hope these tips help you get a healthy start to 2019. FIrst Care Clinics wishes you a Happy New Year!
